Rovers secure UK club transfer dealKANGAROO POINT, January 24: Division two women's soccer team Kangaroo Point Rovers have made Queensland history in striking a deal with English Premier League outfit Manchester City.
Go-getting Kangaroo Point coach Joey Derbyshire approached City and its manager Leigh Woods came back with the favourable response last week.
The deal means two Rovers players, Kahla McKinless-Rankin and Suzannah Boulter, will attend a month-long trial at the end of the year at City.
Derbyshire will also head over to participate in a think tank with coaches in Manchester to share ideas on playing style, training techniques and climate specific conditioning.
McKinless-Rankin was a stand-out for Bayside United last year, scoring more than 80 goals in 26 matches. She is now with the Rovers for 2008.
As for Boulter, she kept 19 clean sheets in goals in 26 Rovers appearances.
Derbyshire is over the moon about the deal.
``This step sets the precedent for our future Matildas as Manchester City have one of the best youth academies in the world,'' he said.
``The agreement reached is in the interest of both parties and the benefits to each will only improve as the relationship between the two clubs strengthens.
``We have agreed to a reciprocal training exchange whereby players, on the coach or manager's recommendation from either team, are welcome to trial at either club and the possibility of a permanent move abroad.''
