Match Reports
KPR 1st Grade v Bayside
Much anticipation sourounded the first of our trial games this season with participitation in the Bayside United pre season tournament. With some of our most consistant performers from last season moving on to play for bayside it promised to be a good, tough game.
Bayside vs KPR Fri January 29 2010 Away...Featuring ex KPR stars Maurice Gamble, Graeme Horgan and Pablo "Great Hair" Peleaz
Prior to the match coach Tharenou was anticipating a brutal encounter from the so called premiership favorites. " Bayside have been given the tag of premiers allready" says Tharenou, " but you cant take anything for granted in Div 2" Having played numerous trial matches prior to this one Bayside were expected to show a clean set of heals to the KPR boys. KPR debuting a few new recruits in former premier league stars Danny Gowans and Luke Martin as well as the returning class of Best and Fairest Steve Verschoyle, Josh Ogrady, Piers Euler and Kenny Dowdall, to name a few.
The match was on right from the first wistle as both teams knocked it round well with KPR and Bayside looking sharp. Early into the match a horrendus back pass and miss judgemant from the keeper that couldnt shut his mouth resulted in a goal to Josh, a nice finish to start his tally. 1-0 KPR. No more than ten minutes later the same happened again, a horrible back pass, very inept keeping and the same result, Josh with his seccond for the year and a Breschiano stance to finish it. 2-0 KPR. Bayside then woke up and pressed for chances, a coulpe of good saves by Billett in goals kept us alive until a momentary lapse in marking allowed Peleaz to pick his spot, far post for a easy header and goal. Half time 2-1 KPR.
The secoind half started much the same with the intensity slowly dropping as both teams tired and introduced subs into the game. Both teams had chances with Dale again looking secure at the back. Some tough tackling and tough talking resulted in the game coming to life in the last fifteen and with ten to go Peleaz made a sensational run into the box only to be hacked down by Verschoyle........ Penalty Bayside. Peleaz stepped up against his former club for whom he netted 23 goals last season and blasted it way over onto the road.
At the final wistle both teams put up a good show with KPR extremely impresive considering it was our first hitout on a big field and we were playing the so called glamour team of the league.
