KPR Reserves v Taringa Met 1

Well, its the second round of the Presitigious Bayside Invitational Tournament, and this time the mighty boys of the reserves were up against the might of the Taringa Met 1 side.

Rumours were abounding as to the quality of this Taringa side. They've been together for years, and refuse to play up, because they have such a close bond as a team, and that there were some real quality players out there.

Coach Silvester at the start of the game made a few changes to the squad that appeared in the previous week. This squad looked even stronger than the strong squad put out the previous week, and a few of the new boys really showed their quality.

Well, onto the kick off and the Taringa boys firmly applied the blow torch, well structured passing drawing our boys out of position and creating their own space with pace and movement. It was looking like it was going to be a full on tough encounter, where the team that converts its chances will be the one that comes away with the points.

KPR's main source of creativity was through the hardworking midfield duo of Keet and Logan, with Keet providing the muscle, and Logan the finess. A couple of nice through balls by Logan to Daniel Watts were unsuccessful, until one brilliant defense splitting pass gave Wattsy a one-on-one that he duly tucked away.

This first goal opened up the game dramatically. To our advantage. Virtually the same play several minutes later saw Wattsy miss a 1-on-1 with an expert save by their keeper, but he was rewarded just before half time with his double with a neat finish from a goal mouth scramble from a free kick.

The halftime speech by Coach Silvester was brutal, froth in the mouth, and lightening from his eyes. We needed to get the ball on the ground more and pass and control the centre of the field. But otherwise, he was happy with the scoreline, but so much the execution.

Second half started with aplomb. 2 goals within the first 5 minutes pretty much killed off the game. First a delightful own goal, expertly chipping their own keeper following great pressure by Jess Albatross, then an expert finish by Padraig in the bottom corner.

Keet fresh from a Taylor Swift concert rounded off the scoring with a great shot into the top corner from outside the box, and it ended 5-0. A nice little clean sheet rewarding the hardworking backline and GK.

Coach Silvester much happier with the way the game was played in the second half with much more passing and space, and very happy with the scoreline. The passing was much improved in the 2nd half, but still a few unneccesary long balls when easy passes were still on. But there's still 3 games to go before the season proper.

The Fantasy Points never lie, and the top performers in the side were: Wattsy 10pts, Keet 7pts, Raptis, Lucas, Lachlan 6pt.
