Metro 5 KPR v Annerley 24/04/10

Result: KPR 0 Annerley 6

Date: Saturday 24/04/10

Kick Off: 15:00

Conditions: Bobbly!

There were 2 main contributing factors to this unexpected big home defeat. Firstly, KPR were extremely light on players due to injury and the Anzac day long weekend. And secondly, everything Annerley hit went in! 6 shots – 6 goals. It was like the ball had a net seeking missile attached to it (apart from when KPR had a shot and it switched to a cloud seeking missile).

Adding to the mayhem was the fact that all of the regular defenders were absent and coach Graham Cameron started the game with 2 strikers and a midfielder in front of keeper Grant Preston. In all fairness, Chris Rojek ran himself into the ground at right back and over on the left, Tom Beattie got his head on more balls than Tim Cahill, as the old guard battled valiantly to repel the Annerley offensive.

Neil Gibson backed up his man of the match display against Ipswich the previous week with another cracking effort, playing just in front of the back 3 for most of the game, but also managing to have a hand in the majority of the home sides creative play in the final third. He linked up particularly well with Tommo Ishiguro & Danny Zumaeta in the second half when the latter dropped back into a holding midfield role and Tommo was pushed out onto the left wing.

KPR desperately need to rediscover the form that saw them put 7 past Logan City in early March. A catch up game against cellar dwellers Brisbane Wolves is next on the horizon. A loss here and KPR could be in more trouble than someone over 60 trying to order a foot long in Subway! Whereas a win would most likely see them bounce back a few spots towards the pointy end of the ladder. Come on boys – dig deep, play with pride and keep the Wolves from the door.
